A big thank you to @eurasierboy for the Amaroq update. 😃
I didn't know about firejail up to now, but this small guide on how to use it to sandbox ffmpeg on Linux seems like useful #mastoadmin advice: https://serenitylabs.cloud/using-firejail-to-sandbox-ffmpeg-in-mastodon
@jpmens Actually I had Wallabag, Ghost and mist.io in mind.
I can‘t remember why I choosed to use Recorderd. I had a lack of understanding how Owntracks, Mosquitto & Recorder work and how to connect them. It‘s much better now, but I still need to clean things up. Perhaps my lua patch isn’t necessary at all.
@gnarf Amazon hat das ja übernommen und von denen kamen noch keine Aussage dazu. Zumindest habe ich noch nichts dazu gefunden.
@jpmens Okay, that was a misunderstanding.
I started using Docker because I was not able to follow the installation instructions of some projects. Things can be complicated if there is no tool for dependency management.
@jpmens There should be a ready to use Docker image. The upgrade docs include instructions.
@jpmens That‘s why there is a Docker container for Mastodon.
One the instance is set up, you should no longer care about the dependencies.
For me Postgres caused the most pain. Every time when an pg update is required.
@thalon Wenn es wohl nicht gerade viel DB Migrationen nötig sind, kann man immer genau das machen, was in der Update Anleitung steht. Ich habe dann noch ein Script für den Neustart, weil der Befehl da nicht steht.
I'm not happy with how the Wil Wheaton situation was resolved. An admin was overwhelmed with frivolous reports about him and felt forced to exile him. I've said before that I think it sets a dangerous precedent on how a large group of people can mobilize to drive anyone off the fediverse. Mob rule is universally dangerous: Mods and admins must examine evidence and decide based on wrongdoing and danger, and not on how many times someone was reported.
